MCEM Part C OSCE stations may be divided roughly into the following groups: 1. Practical skill stations (for example airway management, chest drain insertion, ventilation, intraosseous access, suturing, plaster cast application, catheter insertion). 2. Clinical examination (for example the respiratory & cardiovascular systems). 3. Clinical scenario stations (for example acute MI, subarachnoid bleed, drug overdose, psychiatric assessment, clearing a cervical spine etc). 4. Resuscitation scenario stations (ALS, APLS, ATLS, defibrillator safety etc). 5. Communication skills stations (for example breaking bad or unexpected news, post-exposure HIV / hepatitis prophylaxis counselling, post-coital prophylaxis). Overall, the sort of material presented in the clinical examination is the same as you might be seen in everyday clinical experience in A&E. The examiners are not trying to catch you out. OSCE 'rules' and an exam 'blueprint' are shown here (pdf). |
